Millennial oak tree of Maksym Zaliznyak

Millennial oak tree of Maksym Zaliznyak, Natural monument oak tree in Cherkasy Oblast, Ukraine.

The Millennial oak tree of Maksym Zaliznyak is located near Buda village and stands around 30 meters tall with a trunk circumference of about 9 meters. It ranks among the largest trees on the continent due to its extraordinary size.

The tree has stood in this region for more than 1100 years, shaping the landscape across many generations. It was named after Maksym Zaliznyak, a historical leader from the 18th century.

The tree carries the name of Maksym Zaliznyak, a local leader whose memory remains tied to this place. Visitors encounter a living symbol that connects people to their region's deeper story.

The tree can be observed from a viewing platform positioned about seven meters from the trunk. Visitors should keep in mind that the location is remote and access depends on local conditions.

In the late 1950s, the tree underwent an experimental treatment using syrup and honey to attract bees and fight decay. This unusual rescue method allowed it to regain strength and continue growing.
