Ichnya National Nature Park, National nature park in Chernihiv Oblast, Ukraine
Ichnya National Nature Park is a protected area covering roughly 9,600 hectares in the Chernihiv region and spans forest-steppe terrain within the Uday river basin. The landscape features numerous lakes, ponds, and winding streams that run throughout the park.
The park was established in 2004 by Ukraine's Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources to protect the natural ecosystems of Chernihiv region. This designation aimed to preserve the forest-steppe landscapes and their wildlife from ongoing pressures.
Local people have gathered berries and mushrooms here for generations, and visitors can still see this practice in action during the appropriate seasons within permitted zones.
The park has two established walking routes designed for nature observation, allowing visitors to explore different habitats at their own pace. Basic accommodation and equipment are available at the on-site facilities for those planning a longer stay.
The park is a patchwork of distinct forest types that vary by location and soil conditions. Visitors can walk through oak-hornbeam forests in the west and oak-pine forests on river slopes, plus boggy wetlands in the Uday valley, experiencing multiple forest worlds in one visit.
