Laocoön Sculpture Group, Marble sculpture copy in Dumska Square, Ukraine

The Laocoön Sculpture Group is a marble copy standing in the center of Dumska Square, showing three human figures being attacked by large serpents. The work is carved from white Carrara marble and stands out for its fine anatomical details and lifelike poses of struggle.

The original sculpture was excavated in Rome during 1506 and now resides in the Vatican Museums. This copy in Odesa preserves the exact proportions and details of that famous ancient original.

The sculpture depicts a well-known story from Greek mythology that visitors can experience today in Odesa's public art. The dramatic scene with the three figures and serpents shows how ancient tales remain part of city life and shared cultural memory.

The sculpture stands in the open center of the square and can be viewed from multiple angles, offering good photo opportunities. The square itself is easy to reach and has other places to explore nearby.

Each of the three figures embodies a different stage of struggle and desperation in this dramatic moment. These differences in movement and facial expression make it one of the most moving examples of ancient sculptural art.
