Pripyat amusement park, Abandoned amusement park in Pripyat, Ukraine
The Pripyat Amusement Park is an abandoned site with Soviet-era rides including a ferris wheel, bumper cars, paratrooper tower, swing boats, and shooting gallery. The complex sits in the center of town and still shows the original layout of each attraction, surrounded by encroaching forest.
The opening was scheduled for May 1st 1986 to celebrate Labour Day with music and children riding the attractions. The disaster on April 26th forced the city into evacuation before a single visitor could enter the gates.
The ferris wheel stands as one of the most photographed objects in the Zone and represents an interrupted future frozen in time. Visitors notice how silent the area around the rides has become, as if children stopped laughing only moments ago.
Access is allowed only through licensed guided tours that include radiation checks and safety briefings before entering the area. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and avoid touching surfaces, as contamination remains present on certain objects.
In September 2017 Polish visitors managed to manually turn the ferris wheel, causing it to rotate for the first time in three decades. The carriages screeched loudly as they moved, having gone without maintenance for so long.

This collection documents major buildings that have disappeared throughout history. It includes religious structures such as the 15th-century Porcelain Tower of Nanjing, whose glazed bricks gleamed in sunlight, as well as destroyed palaces, theaters, and public buildings from various periods and continents. Among the lost structures are the Colossus of Rhodes, the Temple in Jerusalem, the Great Buddhas of Bamiyan, the Berlin Wall, and the World Trade Center. The reasons for the disappearance of these structures range from warfare to natural disasters to deliberate demolition for urban redevelopment. The Palais du Trocadéro in Paris was demolished in 1937 to make way for the current Palais de Chaillot. The Crystal Palace in London burned down in 1936. The Tacoma Narrows Bridge collapsed in 1940, just months after opening. This compilation provides insight into lost architectural achievements and the historical circumstances of their disappearance.
