Lviv Polytechnic Observatory

Lviv Polytechnic Observatory is a research facility on the university campus equipped with modern instruments for sky observation and Earth measurement. The equipment monitors long-term changes in Earth's rotation and collects precise geodetic data for scientific purposes.

The facility was established to support scientific research at the university and engage in sky observation. In recent decades, a GPS station called SULP was added to track Earth's rotation in greater detail.

The observatory contributes to astronomy education by offering public observations, lectures, and research opportunities for students at Lviv Polytechnic National University.

The site is located on the campus of Lviv Polytechnic University and is accessible during university operating hours. Visitors should check with the university beforehand, as not all areas are open without prior arrangement.

The SULP GPS station can detect extremely small variations in Earth's rotation that affect navigation systems and satellite communications. These measurements are so precise that they can detect movements in the millimeter range.
