Sokolyni Hory, Landscape reserve in Rivne Oblast, Ukraine.
Sokolyni Hory is a natural reserve covering 51 hectares with steep forested rocky shores about 25 meters high along the Sluch River, positioned between Hubkiv and Marynyn villages. The landscape features dense woodlands that rise sharply from the river's edge, creating distinctive terrain with rocky outcroppings throughout the protected area.
The government established this protected area in 1983 as part of broader conservation efforts across the Rivne Oblast region. This action reflected growing initiatives to safeguard natural landscapes throughout Ukraine.
The reserve forms part of a larger regional park where people maintain deep connections to the forest and river through traditional practices. Local communities view this landscape as an important part of their heritage and continue using it as they have for generations.
The reserve is about 76 kilometers southwest of Rivne city and can be reached from there with marked trails guiding visitors through the forested areas along the river. Sturdy footwear is recommended since the trails cross rocky and sloped terrain.
The steep rock cliffs beside the Sluch River create natural nesting sites where several falcon species build their nests within this protected territory. These birds are a notable feature that visitors may observe during their visit.
