Chernihiv Regional historical museum, History museum in Chernihiv, Ukraine
The Chernihiv Regional Historical Museum occupies a former bank building and contains more than 230,000 exhibits representing Ukrainian heritage through centuries.
Founded in 1896 by philanthropist Vasyl Tarnowsky Jr., the museum began with his personal collection of local antiquities and historical artifacts.
The museum exhibits traditional Ukrainian costumes, tools, weapons, manuscripts, and artworks dating from prehistoric times through the modern period.
Visitors can explore the museum every day from 9:00 to 16:30 except Thursdays, with guided tours available in Ukrainian and English.
The museum holds a collection of 758 items related to poet Taras Shevchenko, including original letters, drawings, paintings, and his death mask.
