Red Bridge, Road bridge in Chernihiv, Ukraine
The Red Bridge crosses the Strizhen River to connect different areas of Chernihiv using three reinforced concrete beams and cast iron railings. The structure features polished red granite trim and traditional lanterns as decorative elements.
The first documented wooden bridge at this location appears in the oldest city plan of 1706. After repeated floods and reconstructions since the 17th century, the bridge was expanded in 1964 to accommodate trolleybus traffic.
The bridge structure incorporates polished red granite trim and traditional lanterns, reflecting the architectural preferences of local urban design.
The bridge has dedicated sidewalks for pedestrians and can be crossed at any time of day. The structure is built to handle regular city traffic and buses, so crossing during rush hour requires attention to vehicles.
The current bridge incorporates sections from its 1916 predecessor, which had survived multiple floods. These older elements are integrated into the modern concrete structure and reflect the durability of the original design.
