Chernihiv Regional Art Museum

The Chernihiv Regional Art Museum occupies a 19th-century building in the ancient princely city and holds more than 16,000 artworks. The collection spans paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts from different time periods.

The museum was founded in 1983 and holds collections from the Galagan Cossack family, featuring Western European and Ukrainian artworks dating from the 16th century onwards. These holdings document artistic development across centuries.

The museum displays religious artworks from the Ukrainian Baroque period, including representations of Archangel Michael and Virgin Mary icons. These pieces reflect the spiritual traditions that shaped artistic expression in the region.

The museum maintains regular operations throughout the week and provides access to its extensive collection. The location on Museyna Street in the old part of the city is easily reached by foot.

The collection includes the 1626 painting 'Concert' by Dutch artist Hendrick Terbruggen, a significant work from the Dutch Golden Age. This rare piece demonstrates how Western European masterworks found their way into the Ukrainian collection.
