Chorna Klyva

Chorna Klyva is a mountain summit in the Pryvododilni Gorgany range in the northern Carpathians, rising to 1,719 meters. The surrounding terrain features forests and meadows that offer wide views across the mountain landscape.

The mountain held strategic importance during World War II and still shows traces of this period in its fortification remains. These fortifications were built between 1939 and 1943, partly on top of earlier World War I structures.

The peak's name appears in multiple regional languages, showing how the Eastern Carpathians have been shaped by different peoples over time. You can notice this linguistic variety when exploring villages and talking with locals in the surrounding area.

The best time to visit is from June to October or January to March when weather and ground conditions are favorable. Hiking trails lead to the summit from nearby towns, where you can also find places to stay overnight.

The summit features an extensive network of preserved military trenches that blend into the natural terrain, creating distinct observation points. This unusual mixture of nature and military history makes the place a memorable hiking destination.
