Gora Kotël, Mountain summit in Zakarpattia Oblast, Ukraine
Gora Kotël is a summit in the Ukrainian Carpathians that rises to about 1,900 meters (6,200 feet) elevation. Its steep slopes and thick forest coverage define the landscape throughout the mountain.
This peak was part of different borders across time: first under Hungarian control, then Czechoslovak authority, and later Soviet rule. It became part of independent Ukraine after 1991.
The region around this peak has long ties to mountain life, with local communities maintaining traditions that reflect their closeness to the Carpathian landscape.
Marked hiking trails connect this summit to nearby towns and villages in the region. Plan for changing mountain weather and bring proper gear for the steep terrain.
The name means 'Kettle Mountain,' referring to a distinctive geological feature: a natural amphitheater shape on the northern face. This hollow formation is what sets apart the mountain's appearance.
