The settlement was part of Lutuhyne Raion, an administrative district established in 1965 that governed the region for decades. In 2020, it transitioned to the newly formed Lutuhyne urban hromada following territorial reforms.
The population of the region represents a mix of Ukrainian and Russian communities, with the 2001 census showing 71% Ukrainian and 26.7% Russian inhabitants.
