Гамалеевский Харлампиев монастырь

The Gamaliivsky Haralampus Monastery is an Orthodox complex with two main churches, the Church of Saint Charalampus and the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, arranged around a central courtyard. Sturdy stone walls topped with towers surround the entire site and divide its interior spaces from the surrounding landscape.

Founded in 1713 with backing from Hetman Ivan Skoropadsky, the monastery became an important burial ground for the Skoropadsky family during the 1700s. The site shifted from male to female monastic use in 1924 as part of broader changes in Orthodox religious life.

This convent serves as a female religious community that forms the spiritual center of the village. The ongoing worship and daily presence of nuns give the place its living character as an active religious site.

Visitors can attend religious services at the monastery, though you should know that portions of the complex currently serve as a correctional facility. It is wise to confirm accessible areas before your visit and to be respectful of the nuns and others who may be present.

The main church features an unusual architectural design with a rectangular floor plan topped by a five-sided apse. Its hemispherical dome sits atop a tall octagonal drum, creating a distinctive silhouette that stands out from typical Orthodox church designs of the era.
