Pidkamin Monastery

Pidkamin Monastery is a Dominican monastery in the Ukrainian settlement of Pidkamin featuring fortified walls, towers, and a church building positioned beside a prominent rock outcrop. The complex displays typical features of a fortified religious site with stone structures that stand against the surrounding landscape.

The monastery was founded in 1464 and developed into an important religious center in the region. It served as shelter for people during World War II, but later experienced intense conflict that left deep marks on its structures.

The monastery was closely tied to a revered icon of Mary that attracted pilgrims from the region until it was moved to Wrocław after World War II.

The monastery ruins are accessible and can be reached by public buses from Lviv, with visitors able to explore independently or arrange local guides. It is advisable to wear sturdy footwear since the grounds are rough and partly uneven.

The monastery walls bear visible bullet holes and damage from the war years, functioning like a stone record of the conflict. These marks clearly show how intense the fighting was at this location and continue to shape the appearance of the complex today.
