"Повернення Архипенка" ("The Return of Archipenko") is a metal monument in central Kyiv dedicated to the Ukrainian sculptor Alexander Archipenko. It stands at the corner of Yevhena Chykalenka and Hetman Pavlo Skoropadsky streets, near the courtyard of the Kyiv-Donbas building.
Alexander Archipenko was born in Kyiv in 1887 and left Ukraine in the early 20th century to work in Paris and later in the United States. The memorial was created by sculptor Anatoliy Valiyev and architect Vadym Zhezheryn to honor his connection to his birth city.
The memorial's name, "The Return of Archipenko," refers directly to the Ukrainian sculptor Alexander Archipenko, who left his homeland and never came back. Visitors often come here to look closely at the polished bronze figure and draw their own comparisons with Archipenko's actual sculptures.
The monument stands at a street corner in central Kyiv and is easy to reach on foot. There is no entry fee, and you can stop by at any time.
Although the monument is inspired by Archipenko's style, it is not a copy of any of his works but an original figure designed by Valiyev and Zhezheryn. Archipenko himself never returned to Kyiv after leaving, which gives the title of the memorial a quiet irony.
