Nat͡sionalʹnyĭ zapovidnyk "Davniĭ Halych"

Natslonalny Zapovidnyk Davniy Halych is a national reserve encompassing over 200 architectural monuments scattered across multiple settlements, including churches, fortifications, and archaeological sites from different periods. The reserve spreads across several villages and protects structures spanning roughly from the 11th to the 17th century.

The reserve was established in 1994 to protect structures spanning roughly nine centuries of history, beginning with early medieval settlements and continuing through to early modern times. Major monuments like Halych Castle and the Church of the Nativity of Christ reflect the different periods and powers that shaped this region.

The Museum of Karaite History displays ten preserved houses and a cemetery in Zalukva village, showing how this ethnic group lived for centuries. Walking through them today, you see how families organized their homes and marked important moments in their community.

Guided tours through modern Halych center last around 2.5 hours and focus on architectural landmarks such as the Temple of St. Panteleymon. It helps to wear comfortable shoes since you will be walking between different sites across the settlements.

The site contains the foundations of the 12th-century Assumption Cathedral as well as the grave of Yaroslav Osmomysl in the Krylos settlement. These two important locations reveal the early religious and political power that shaped this place.
