Virgin Mary Nativity Cathedral, Eastern Orthodox cathedral in Mykolaiv, Ukraine.
The Virgin Mary Nativity Cathedral is a classicist church building in central Mykolaiv with symmetrical proportions and clean architectural lines. The brick structure displays balanced facades and orderly design characteristic of the neoclassical style.
The cathedral was constructed in 1838 following classicist principles and designed by architect Fedir Danylov on the site of an earlier wooden church from 1685. This rebuilding reflects the long development of the religious site over more than 150 years.
The cathedral serves as a gathering place where the Orthodox community gathers for worship and prayer. Its religious artifacts and ancient texts connect visitors to centuries of spiritual practice in the region.
The cathedral is located in central Mykolaiv on Lyahina Street and can be reached on foot while exploring the city center. Visitors should be respectful during regular services, as this remains an active place of worship.
During the war in April 2022, the cathedral suffered artillery damage that affected its facades, windows, and destroyed the nearby Sunday school building. The community continues to work toward restoring this damaged landmark.
