The Monument to Aleksandr Pushkin in Mykolaiv is a bronze statue located at the intersection of Naberezhna Street and Pushkinska Street. The life-sized representation of the Russian poet once served as a recognizable landmark in this central area of the city.
The monument was created in 1988 by sculptor Yuriy Makushin and architect O.P. Popova to honor the Russian poet. The statue represented a significant example of Soviet-era commemorative art in the city.
The statue received designation as a Monument of monumental art of Ukraine of local importance, marking its significance in the regional heritage.
The monument was formerly located at a central point in the city and was easily accessible on foot. Visitors should note that the statue is no longer present at its original location.
The statue was removed in 2022 during a regional derussification process that reflected changing cultural views in Ukraine. This action marked a significant shift in how the city evaluated its public monuments.
