Inhul Bridge, Moveable road bridge in Mykolaiv, Ukraine
Inhul Bridge stretches for 422 meters across the river, with a roadway 18.5 meters wide that accommodates cars, trolleybuses, and pedestrians on separate walkways. The central movable span measures 76 meters and lifts vertically to let vessels pass toward the upstream shipyard complex.
A pontoon crossing linked both riverbanks starting in 1795, until construction of the current fixed structure took place between 1974 and 1980. The new design replaced the temporary passage and allowed a permanent connection between neighborhoods.
The bridge forms a central part of Mykolaiv's industrial identity, connecting the city center to the shipbuilding district across the Ingul River.
Wide sidewalks run on both sides of the roadway and allow pedestrians to cross safely even during heavy traffic. When the movable section opens, the entire passage closes temporarily, which usually happens during periods of lower ship traffic.
The structure held the record until 1996 for the longest movable segment among all European river crossings. Since then, larger movable designs have been completed elsewhere, but the dimensions remain noteworthy for urban infrastructure in this region.
