Sevastopol Zoo, Animal sanctuary in Sevastopol, Crimea.
Sevastopol Zoo is a zoo in the coastal city of Sevastopol, housing animals from several parts of the world across dedicated sections, including birds of prey, rodents, and South American mammals. Each enclosure is set within natural planting and accompanied by information boards describing where the animals come from and how they live.
The zoo opened in 2012 as the first dedicated animal facility in the city, starting with a modest collection. Over the following years, exchanges with other zoological institutions helped expand the range of species on display.
The zoo draws many families from a city better known for its naval past than for wildlife, making it a rare green spot where children can see animals from distant regions. The mix of visitors, from school groups to weekend families, gives it the feel of a neighborhood gathering place.
The zoo is on Biryuleva Street and is open throughout the year, so a visit is possible in any season. Comfortable shoes are a good idea, as the paths between enclosures involve a fair amount of walking.
The zoo was built under director Remigiyus Vrady, who focused on forming partnerships with other zoological facilities across the region. Thanks to these connections, the zoo managed to acquire species that are rarely seen in other facilities of a similar size.
