Zheleznyakov

Zheleznyakov is an armored railway train with reinforced metal walls fitted with artillery cannons and machine gun positions along its several linked cars. The structure combined thick protective plating with mounted weapons to create a mobile defense platform.

The train was built in 1941 at Sevastopol's Marine Plant and played a role in the city's defense operations. It was designed for rapid movement along railway lines to deliver firepower to multiple defensive positions.

The train represents Soviet engineering and shows how people reshaped a vehicle for defense during wartime. Today visitors can see how armor plating and weapons combined to form a mobile combat system.

The train is positioned near the railway station and visible from the street. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes, as walking around the entire structure to view all sides requires some movement.

Enemy forces called this train the 'Green Phantom' because of how quickly it could move and vanish from sight. The nickname reflects how opposing sides perceived its effectiveness and speed.
