Белзский детинец

Belz Fortress is a medieval stronghold located in the town of Belz that occupies a rectangular area with earthen ramparts. The structure sits along a river and displays traces of its original defensive features with reinforced walls.

The fortress began in the 9th century as a defensive post of the Buzhan people and later became the seat of its own principality. Much of what researchers uncover in the ruins today comes from this formative period.

This location served as a major center for the early Slavic communities that made their homes here. The excavations reveal how people in this region built their dwellings and organized their daily activities.

The location sits close to the Ukrainian-Polish border and can be accessed from either side through the road network in the area. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes as the grounds are relatively open and can be uneven.

The walls here used a special construction with inner chambers filled with earth for added strength. This design made the defensive system more durable and better able to withstand outside attacks.
