Holovanivsk Raion, Administrative district in Kirovohrad Oblast, Ukraine.
Holovanivsk Raion is an administrative district within Kirovohrad Oblast, located in central Ukraine and made up of rural communities, farmland, and forested areas. The territory is crossed by regional roads that connect scattered villages and small towns across a largely agricultural landscape.
In 2020, Holovanivsk Raion was significantly enlarged when four neighboring raions were merged into it as part of a nationwide administrative reform. This reorganization created a much larger territorial unit and shifted how local governance was structured across the area.
Villages in this part of central Ukraine hold seasonal celebrations where local crafts, folk music, and traditional food come together. These events are rooted in agricultural rhythms and give visitors a sense of how rural communities mark the year.
Traveling by car is the most practical way to move around, as many villages are spread across rural roads with limited public transport connections. Spring and summer offer the most comfortable conditions for getting around the area.
The district is made up of ten self-governing communities called hromadas, each with its own local administration and decision-making power. This setup is a direct result of a decentralization reform that Ukraine started in the 2010s, aiming to move authority away from central government and closer to local residents.
