Strategic missile forces museum in Ukraine, Military museum in Pobuzke, Ukraine.
The Strategic Missile Forces Museum is a former Soviet nuclear missile facility near Pobuzke that now functions as a memorial and educational institution. The site contains underground command centers, missile silos, and original control equipment preserved from the facility's operational period.
The facility was built in the 1960s as a Soviet missile command center and held strategic importance during the Cold War. After Ukraine agreed to eliminate its nuclear arsenal, the site was transformed into a museum in 2001.
The site reflects how Soviet military technology shaped the region and how people have adapted this legacy for peaceful purposes in recent decades. The restored spaces tell of an era when this facility played a central role in global power dynamics.
Visitors travel by Soviet-era elevator about 35 meters (115 feet) underground to reach the command centers and can explore various sections of the facility. Comfortable shoes are advisable, as spending time in the narrow, cool underground spaces can be physically demanding.
The outdoor area displays a 22-meter (72-foot) R-36 rocket originally imported from Kazakhstan, representing one of the largest intercontinental ballistic missiles developed during the Soviet era. This display piece helps many visitors grasp the enormous scale of Cold War nuclear weapons.
