Chernihiv Regional Youth Centre building, Youth center building in Chernihiv, Ukraine
The Chernihiv Regional Youth Centre building is a retrospectivist-style cultural structure in central Chernihiv, Ukraine, originally fitted with three halls for theatrical shows, concerts, and film screenings. The building is now partially destroyed and listed as a local architectural heritage monument of Ukraine.
The building was completed in 1939 and heavily damaged during World War II, then rebuilt in 1947. A renovation in the 1960s gave it the shape it kept for decades to come.
For decades, this was the only place in Chernihiv where residents could watch films, before it became a youth cultural centre. Today the building stands as a reminder of a time when cinema and live performances shaped the social life of the city.
The building is located in central Chernihiv and easy to reach on foot or by public transport. Because it is partially destroyed, visitors should expect limited access to the interior and take care when approaching the structure.
The building was heavily damaged again in 2022 during the Russian attack on Ukraine, more than eight decades after its first destruction in World War II. This means it has survived two separate wars and bears visible traces of both.
