Lord's, Cricket field in St John's Wood, London, England
Lord's is a cricket field in St John's Wood, a neighborhood within Westminster in northwest London, serving as the home ground for Marylebone Cricket Club. The site contains over 25 playing surfaces, practice nets, a media tower, and several stands arranged around the central pitch.
Thomas Lord moved the ground to its present location in 1814 after two earlier relocations in Marylebone and Regent's Park. The Victorian pavilion was built later in the 19th century and became the architectural centerpiece of the venue.
The Victorian pavilion remains the most important space for members who gather during match intervals. Its long rooms and club areas still follow a formal etiquette that emphasizes the traditional character of this sport in English life.
Access is through the main entrance on St John's Wood Road, and visitors will find orientation maps at several points inside the grounds. Accessible areas are located in different stand sections, and signage helps locate facilities and exits.
The museum building houses the original Ashes urn from 1882, a tiny terracotta object central to English-Australian cricket history. Entry to the museum is possible independently of match days and allows visitors to see historic bats, balls, and jerseys from different periods.
