Garvellachs, Island group in Inner Hebrides, Scotland.

The Garvellachs comprise four small islands with steep cliffs, green slopes, and limestone formations at the entrance to the Firth of Lorne. Each island has its own character, shaped by wind and waves that constantly reshape the rocky shores.

A Celtic monastery was established on one of the islands in the 6th century and became an important religious center in the early Christian period. This foundation shows the reach of early monastic movements across the Hebridean islands.

The name comes from Scottish Gaelic and refers to the wild character of these waters. Walking among the old stone structures, you can feel how important the sea has always been to this place.

Visiting requires boat transportation from the mainland, as there are no bridges to these islands. You should contact local boat operators beforehand to arrange a trip and be prepared for changeable weather conditions typical of the Scottish coast.

The islands preserve a complete geological record from about 720 million years ago, when Earth entered one of its largest ice ages. The rock layers here tell a story of global climate change that few places on Earth can match.
