Lombe's Mill, Industrial textile mill in Derby, England
The five-story brick building stands on an island in the River Derwent, featuring a systematic grid of windows across its plain facade.
John Lombe established this mechanized silk factory in 1721 after gathering manufacturing techniques through industrial espionage activities in northern Italy.
The transformation from silk production facility to Derby Industrial Museum in 1974 maintains the legacy of British textile manufacturing innovations.
The structure currently operates as the Museum of Making, displaying exhibits about manufacturing processes and regional industrial development.
The internal configuration included 26 Italian-designed winding engines across three upper floors, powered by a large water wheel system.
