Fratton Park, Association football stadium in Milton, England.
Fratton Park is a football ground in Portsmouth, England, with four stands of red brick and steel that surround the pitch. The ground features covered seating areas in all sections and visible floodlight towers at the corners.
The ground opened in September 1899 with a local derby and has served continuously as home to Portsmouth Football Club ever since. During the Second World War the venue suffered bomb damage but was repaired and later expanded.
The name comes from the old Fratton settlement that once defined this part of the island and still lives on in the neighborhood today. Visitors see fans in blue and white shirts on match days, gathering in the pubs around the ground before kickoff.
Visitors can reach the stadium via Fratton railway station, about a 15-minute walk away, or by using local bus routes. On match days early arrival is advisable as streets around the ground become busy.
The ground is the only professional English football stadium located entirely on Portsea Island, unconnected to the mainland. Many visitors notice the closeness to the sea, visible from the upper tiers on clear days.
