McGalliard Falls

McGalliard Falls is a waterfall in North Carolina that drops over granite rocks into a plunge pool, with water flowing continuously from McGalliard Creek throughout the year. The site includes maintained areas for viewing the falls and the surrounding landscape.

The Meytre Grist Mill operated at this site from 1906 until 1941, when operations ceased as younger workers left the area. The mill was part of the industrial development that served the local community during the early twentieth century.

The park reflects the Waldensian heritage, as Italian Protestant settlers founded the town of Valdese in the late 1800s. Visitors can see how this community shaped the area and its relationship with the natural landscape.

Access is through a paved path from the free parking area at Falls Road, where visitors can cross the water on a maintained trail. The route is clearly marked so it is easy to reach the viewing areas at the falls.

A reconstructed mill building near the falls displays original grinding equipment and machinery from the early 1900s. These remains let visitors understand how the mill workers operated and see the site's industrial past up close.
