Bridgeport, Port city in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States.

Located at the mouth of the Pequonnock River on Long Island Sound, Bridgeport stretches along the coastline with an elevation of one meter above sea level.

The settlement, initially named Newfield in 1639, received its current name due to the first drawbridge constructed over the Pequonnock River and became incorporated in 1821.

The Barnum Museum preserves the legacy of P.T. Barnum, who served as mayor in 1871 while establishing public facilities and parks throughout the municipality.

Residents access city services through the Bridgeport 3-1-1 mobile application, which connects them directly to municipal departments for reporting concerns and requesting assistance.

The city established the first mutual telephone exchange in North America during 1877, marking a significant advancement in communication technology.
