Arlington National Cemetery, Military cemetery in Arlington County, United States.

Arlington National Cemetery extends across 639 acres and contains over 400,000 graves of military personnel, veterans, and their eligible family members.

The cemetery started operations in 1864 when the federal government acquired the land from Confederate General Robert E. Lee's family during the Civil War.

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier receives continuous protection from guards of the 3rd Infantry Regiment through a precise ceremonial changing ritual.

Arlington National Cemetery conducts between 27 and 30 funeral services each weekday, with visitors allowed access from 8 AM to 5 PM daily.

Section 60 serves as the dedicated burial area for military members who died in recent operations since 2001, maintaining current military history.
