Arlington Farms, World War II housing complex in Arlington, United States.
Arlington Farms was a residential complex of ten dormitories with shared lounges, game rooms, and laundry facilities for female residents. Each building offered rooms with various occupancy options, basic furnishings, and access to on-site services like a department store.
The complex was built in 1942 by the Federal Works Agency on former Department of Agriculture land. It was created as part of wartime efforts to house women employed in expanding government positions during World War II.
The site housed women working for the government during a time when women's employment in federal positions was growing. Civilian and military residents lived side by side in this shared community.
The dormitories were arranged on a single site with centralized common facilities that all residents could easily access. The layout was designed for straightforward navigation and daily living without needing detailed knowledge of the grounds.
The site was completely demolished in the following decades and repurposed for a different major project. This transformation shows how the land's purpose and significance shifted dramatically over time.
