Hendersonville, Suburban city in Sumner County, Tennessee, United States.
Hendersonville is a suburban city in Sumner County, Tennessee, spreading along the shore of Old Hickory Lake and consisting of numerous residential neighborhoods and lakefront properties. The city covers an area of roughly 85 square kilometers (33 square miles) and blends suburban settlements with waterside recreation areas.
The settlement emerged after 1784, when Daniel Smith received a land grant and soon established the Rock Castle estate. The area transformed into a suburban community following the dam construction in the 1950s, which turned farmland into residential neighborhoods.
The legacy of country music shows along Music Valley Drive and in the lakeside neighborhoods, where several former recording studios now serve as private homes. The street name Johnny Cash Parkway and local music events recall the era when the area was a favored retreat for performers.
The easiest approach follows Vietnam Veterans Boulevard, which provides the connection to Nashville. Shopping centers and restaurants spread along Main Street and Indian Lake Boulevard, where supermarkets and gas stations are also located.
The dam not only created a lake but also altered the local microclimate, resulting in milder temperatures along the shore compared to the inland areas. On some winter mornings, the water remains ice-free while fields a few kilometers inland lie frozen.
