Fillmore County extends across 862 square miles of rolling hills and agricultural lands, intersected by the Root River flowing eastward through the region.
The county established in 1853 experienced rapid growth through Norwegian immigration and became Minnesota's most populated county by 1860 with 28,599 residents.
