Polk County

Polk County is an administrative division in eastern Tennessee that covers an area of mountains, forests, and river valleys. The Hiwassee River winds through the landscape, creating a natural feature that defines much of the terrain.

The county was established in 1839 from parts of Bradley and McMinn counties during a period of territorial expansion in Tennessee. This formation was part of the broader reorganization of administrative boundaries throughout the state during the 1800s.
