Jasper is a city in Pickens County nestled in the North Georgia Mountains at roughly 450 meters elevation. The town spreads across about 5 square kilometers and is shaped by a mountainous landscape.
The town was named after William Jasper, a Revolutionary War hero, and was incorporated as a town in 1857. Its elevation to city status came about a century later in 1957.
The Georgia Marble Festival takes place during the first weekend of October, bringing together artisans, artists, and runners who participate in a traditional road race.
The town can be reached via Georgia State Routes 5 and 515, which connect to surrounding communities. The nearby Interstate 575 makes travel to larger regional destinations fairly quick.
The Tate House, built in the 1920s by marble industrialist Sam Tate, is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building stands as a tangible link to the town's past marble industry.
