Korean War Veterans Memorial, War memorial at National Mall, United States.
Nineteen stainless steel statues of military personnel stand in formation, appearing as 38 figures when reflected against the black granite wall behind them.
The memorial was dedicated on July 27, 1995, marking the 42nd anniversary of the armistice that ended the Korean War, with presidents Clinton and Kim Young Sam attending.
The memorial includes inscriptions detailing casualties from both United States and United Nations forces, emphasizing international cooperation during the Korean War conflict.
The memorial is accessible 24 hours daily, with National Park Service rangers available from 9:30 AM to 10 PM, and can be reached via Smithsonian metro station.
When the 19 soldier statues reflect on the granite wall, they create an optical illusion representing the 38th parallel dividing North and South Korea.
