World War II Memorial, National memorial on the National Mall in Washington DC, United States.

The memorial features a central fountain surrounded by 56 granite pillars representing states and territories, with two 43-foot arches marking Atlantic and Pacific victories.

Dedicated in 2004, this monument pays tribute to 16 million Americans who served in World War II, including 400,000 who lost their lives during the conflict.

The Freedom Wall displays 4,048 gold stars, each representing 100 American casualties, while bronze reliefs illustrate scenes from both European and Pacific campaigns.

Located between Constitution and Independence Avenues on 17th Street, the memorial offers continuous access with National Park Service rangers available from 9:30 to 22:00.

The memorial incorporates hidden 'Kilroy was here' drawings, a significant symbol for American soldiers during World War II, within its architectural elements.
