Greenville

Greenville is the county seat of Darke County in Ohio, located near the state's western edge. The city sits on flat land and serves as the center of this rural region.

The Treaty of Greenville was signed in 1795 and ended conflicts between Native Americans and European settlers across the region. This peace agreement shaped the future of the entire northwestern territory.

The Garst Museum tells the story of this place through displays about Annie Oakley, Lowell Thomas, and the region's role in major peace negotiations. You can see objects and documents that reflect what mattered to people here.

The county fair takes place every August and offers plenty to see and do for all ages. The event runs for about nine days, giving you time to explore at your own pace.

A large wooden fort from the 1790s once stood here and was among the biggest of its kind in North America at that time. The structure was remarkably large and featured multiple blockhouses enclosed by wooden walls.
