Colossus, Observation wheel at Six Flags St Louis, Missouri, US
Colossus is a tall observation wheel at the Six Flags St Louis amusement park in Eureka featuring 32 passenger cabins. The ride circles slowly above the park grounds, offering views across the entertainment complex and surrounding areas.
The wheel first appeared at the 1984 New Orleans World's Fair before relocating to Six Flags St Louis in 1986. It replaced a former petting zoo and became a defining feature of the amusement park.
The wheel represents a shift in theme park entertainment strategies, catering to multiple generations rather than focusing solely on high-speed attractions.
A complete rotation takes about 15 minutes, giving plenty of time to enjoy views and take photos from your cabin. The motion is smooth and accessible for visitors of all ages and ability levels, including those uncomfortable with heights.
The structure is illuminated by roughly 2200 light bulbs that create 24 different glowing patterns visible throughout the night. In earlier years it displayed a clock face that served as a landmark for drivers passing on Interstate 44.
