Franklin, County seat in Williamson County, Tennessee.
Franklin is a city south of Nashville in Tennessee, set in rolling hills with tree-lined streets and parks scattered across the area. The center shows 19th-century buildings made of brick and wood, with shops and cafés grouped around a town square.
The 1864 battle took place across the fields and streets of the town, turning many homes into hospitals. After the war the area grew slowly around railroad lines and agricultural markets, until recent decades brought rapid population growth.
The name honors Benjamin Franklin, whose portrait still hangs in the courthouse. On weekends, residents gather on the square in front of antique shops, where live music often plays.
The city has several parks and walking trails connected by a network of pedestrian paths. The central square is easy to reach on foot, with parking available on the edges of the downtown area.
The population grew from a small agricultural town of around 12,000 people in 1980 to over 83,000 by 2020. Today it ranks among the fastest growing cities in the state.
