Dortch Stove Works, Industrial heritage site in Franklin, Tennessee.
Dortch Stove Works is a former manufacturing complex with ten substantial buildings dating from the Depression era. The spaces feature tall ceilings, clerestory windows, and concrete floors that maintain the robust character of the original factory design.
The works began in 1929 under the Allen Manufacturing Company, initially producing stoves for regional markets. Operations shifted through several manufacturers including Magic Chef and Jamison Bedding before the facility ceased production in 1991.
The space draws its name from its past as a manufacturing facility. Visitors now use the renovated halls for shopping, dining, and events, creating a gathering place that honors the building's industrial roots while serving modern purposes.
The complex is located on North Franklin Road and now houses more than 80 retail shops and dining options spread across the renovated industrial spaces. The layout allows visitors to walk freely through the buildings, making it easy to explore at your own pace.
Local residents were early investors who purchased preferred stock in the facility, showing direct financial support for its launch. This early community stake in the industrial venture helped shape how the factory became woven into the local story.
