Clough Creek and Sand Ridge Archeological District

The district includes two separate archaeological sites located along Clough Creek and Sand Ridge, covering approximately 70 acres of land in southwestern Ohio.

The sites contain multiple artifacts from the Fort Ancient culture, including stone tools, pottery fragments, and projectile points dating back to prehistoric settlements.

The remains found at Sand Ridge indicate seasonal occupation patterns, with evidence suggesting inhabitants relied heavily on fish from nearby water sources.

Research activities continue at both locations, with artifacts discovered up to 5 feet below the surface, requiring careful excavation and documentation methods.

Archaeological evidence reveals two distinct chronological periods at Sand Ridge, where a Fort Ancient village was constructed over an earlier Late Woodland settlement.
