Maryville

Maryville is the county seat of Blount County in Tennessee, sitting at roughly 290 meters elevation near the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. The town spreads across several neighborhoods that climb gently toward forested ridges and valleys.

The settlement was founded in 1785 and named after Mary Grainger, the wife of an early landowner. As Tennessee gained statehood, it grew into a trading hub for surrounding farms and villages.

The local school district maintains multiple elementary institutions, including Fort Craig and John Sevier, which organize regular educational programs for students.

Most public buildings and shops are located along the main roads that run parallel to the forested hills. Drivers find parking in many spots, while walkers can cover short distances between residential areas and the center.

A former military site called Fort Craig now serves as the administrative building for the city school system. The conversion preserves the historic name while the rooms are used for educational administration.
