Pound Ridge is a community in the west of Westchester County in New York State near the border with Connecticut. The settlement spreads over wooded hills and narrow valleys with scattered houses and small residential areas.
The community received its official founding as an independent administrative unit in 1788. In the 18th century a small skirmish during the War of Independence led to damage in the settlement.
Residents value the craft shops and galleries along the roads in the center. Smaller events and public gatherings show the close social network of this rural area.
Visitors find most public facilities along the main road that passes through the area. The paths are well suited for outdoor walks, especially in the cooler months.
A nature reserve from the early 20th century occupies a large part of the area. The protected forests were once farmland and pasture for agriculture.
