Phillips Academy, Boarding school in Andover, United States.
Phillips Academy is a secondary boarding school in Andover, Massachusetts, with around 1,150 students. The campus spans roughly 500 acres (202 hectares) and includes classroom buildings, dormitories, sports facilities, and a library.
Samuel Phillips Jr. founded the school in 1778 during the American Revolution. Over the 19th and 20th centuries, it evolved from a religious institution into a modern educational establishment with a worldwide reach.
Former students include US presidents and leading figures in business, science, and the arts. The community follows the motto "non sibi", which means "not for oneself" and shapes daily interactions across campus.
The school is located roughly 20 miles (32 kilometers) north of Boston and is accessible via Route 28 or Interstate 93. Visits are usually possible by prior arrangement, and the grounds are large enough to explore on foot.
The school has held an annual athletic competition with Phillips Exeter Academy since 1878. This tradition is among the oldest school rivalries in the United States and remains a key event for both institutions.
