Batavia is the county seat of Genesee County in New York, situated along Tonawanda Creek with a flat topography. The city features a grid pattern of streets lined with commercial buildings, homes, and local parks arranged throughout the downtown area.
The city was founded in 1802 by the Holland Land Company as a base for selling and distributing land parcels to settlers. Joseph Ellicott built the first land office here, which became the starting point for the growth of this settlement.
