North East, borough of Pennsylvania

North East is a small borough in Erie County, Pennsylvania, located about 14 miles northeast of the city of Erie near the shore of Lake Erie. The community features flat terrain with gentle rises, known for its orchards, vineyards, and local shops lining the Main Street.

North East was founded in the late 1700s by settlers like Joseph Shadduck, who arrived in 1795 and settled along Sixteenmile Creek. The community was officially established as a borough in 1834 and named for its position in the northeasternmost corner of Erie County's original townships.

North East takes its name from its location in the northeastern corner of Erie County. The community has developed around fruit and wine production over generations, visible today in local festivals like the Cherry Festival and Wine Country Harvest Festival that celebrate these agricultural traditions.

North East has a bathing beach on Lake Erie that is one of only two guarded beaches in Pennsylvania, making it a safe spot for families. The area is easy to explore by car, especially along the Seaway Trail heading east, where you will find vineyards, farms, and local shops.

The town has a railroad museum housed in the old train station building that tells stories about the area's connection to railway history. This space preserves tales from a time when trains played a key role in the town's development and commerce.
