Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, International airport in Carolina, Puerto Rico
Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport is an international aviation facility in Carolina on the northeastern coast of Puerto Rico. The complex occupies a wide coastal area and includes several passenger terminals along with facilities for cargo and regional connections.
Planned in the late 1940s and completed during the early 1950s to replace an older facility, it opened in the mid-1950s. The complex has been expanded several times over the decades to meet growing travel demand.
Named after a political figure who played a central role in reshaping the island during the mid-twentieth century, the terminal displays works by local artists. These exhibits give arriving travelers their first impression of Caribbean culture.
The facility sits along the coast east of the capital and is accessible through a well-marked road connection. Travelers will find numerous rental car services, public transport links, and private transfer options directly in the arrivals area.
The location handles several million passengers each year and functions as the busiest hub for travelers across the Caribbean. Many visitors notice the proximity to Isla Verde beach, located just a few hundred yards from the runways.
